A leak from September 18, 2026 names Sandile as the star of the next Pokemon GO Hatch Day, on Saturday, October 17, 2026, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. local time. Niantic has confirmed the time slot, not the Pokemon: here is what is locked in, what is still a rumor, and how to make the most of the hatch bonuses.
I keep this page updated from my couch, incubators running, every time a Hatch Day shows up. This one has a twist: the announced Pokemon has never had an event of its own before. If the leak holds, it will be a first for Sandile.
When is the Sandile Hatch Day, and is it confirmed?
The event is set for Saturday, October 17, 2026, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. local time: that slot really does come from Niantic. Sandile's name, on the other hand, comes from a leak shared on September 18, 2026 by the datamining account @thepokemodgroup, not from an official post.
Niantic usually announces its Hatch Days about a month ahead without always revealing the featured Pokemon right away, as happened with the Fire and Ice Hatch Day on August 8, 2026 featuring Magby and Smoochum. A week before that Hatch Day, the Zorua Community Day on October 10 already fills the afternoons, a packed October for trainers. The leaker's track record works in the rumor's favor: past predictions from this account have checked out repeatedly in recent months. But until the official event page names Sandile in black and white, treat the information as unconfirmed. I will update this page as soon as Niantic confirms.
Saturday, October 17 also falls in the middle of the Fall Marathon (October 13 to 19), with a 42 km Timed Research and two-hour Incense from GO Pass Rank 10.

Who is Sandile, Pokemon number 551?
Sandile is a dual Ground and Dark type Pokemon, number 551 in the National Pokedex, introduced in the Unova region in Generation 5. Its small four-legged reptile shape is inspired by the spectacled caiman, with dark markings around the eyes that give it the look of a masked bandit.
In the core games, Sandile mostly roams desert and sandy areas. In Pokemon GO, it has stayed a quiet regular of 5 km eggs since it joined the game, never featured on its own until now, which is exactly what makes this leak stand out to longtime players.
What bonuses can you expect from this Hatch Day?
The Hatch Day format has followed the same pattern since the Riolu and Fire and Ice editions: shorter hatch distance, doubled candy, and better odds of the shiny star. Here is the breakdown as reported by community outlets covering the leak.
| Bonus | Window | Detail |
|---|---|---|
| Hatch distance | 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. | Cut in half on every egg currently incubating |
| Hatch Candy | 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. | Doubled on every hatch |
| Shiny odds | 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. | Increased chance of a shiny Sandile on hatch |
| 2 km Eggs | 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. | Better odds of getting one from PokeStop Photo Discs |
| Paid research (2.19 EUR / ~1.99 USD) | 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. | Extra hatch distance cut to a quarter, 2 Super Incubators and 1 Star Piece |
Bonuses as relayed by coverage of the September 18, 2026 leak, to be confirmed by Niantic's official announcement.

My field tip for every Hatch Day: clear out your incubators the night before to free up slots, and start your best incubators right at 11 a.m. With the distance cut in half, a 5 km egg turns into a 2.5 km walk, easily done over a lunch break.
Shiny Sandile: what are the odds of finding one?
Shiny Sandile has existed in Pokemon GO since March 26, 2024, so it is not exclusive to this event. Niantic never publishes an exact rate ahead of a Hatch Day, but community trackers measured the previous one, the Riolu Hatch Day, at around 1 in 10, well above the usual wild encounter rate. There is no guarantee the figure repeats for Sandile, only a rough scale to expect.

The shiny color never shows before the hatch, unlike a wild encounter where the animation sometimes gives it away. With an egg, the surprise lands all at once on the hatch screen. If chasing rare colors takes you beyond your phone screen too, the Vulpix crystal LED Pokeball keeps that same small thrill on a shelf, no spawn rate required.
Krokorok and Krookodile: how far does Sandile evolve?
Sandile evolves into Krokorok at level 29, then into Krookodile at level 40: all three forms keep the Ground and Dark dual type from start to finish. Krookodile is known for some of the best Attack stats of its generation, more of a closer than a tank.

In Pokemon GO, hatching a Sandile on October 17 will not hand you an instant Krookodile, you still need species candy like any evolution. With doubled hatch candy, every hatch that day gets you a little closer to the full evolution, especially if you line up several shortened eggs in the same afternoon.

Sandile is far from the only Pokemon that changes shape this much while growing up. The Dragonite LED Pokeball on a wooden stand honors another dramatic transformation, from a small Dratini all the way to the final dragon of its line.
Is the 2.19 EUR paid research worth it?
According to the leak, a one-time paid research bundle at 2.19 EUR (about 1.99 USD) would be sold in the shop on event day, adding an extra quarter cut to hatch distance on top of the free bonus, plus 2 Super Incubators and 1 Star Piece as rewards. This paid research format has come with every recent Hatch Day.
My honest take, assuming the price holds: if you already have several eggs banked for that day, the cost pays for itself fast, a single Super Incubator alone costs more in the regular shop. If you only have one or two eggs to hatch, the free event is plenty.
Why this Hatch Day would be a first for Sandile
Sandile and its line have never had a Community Day or a dedicated Hatch Day since joining Pokemon GO. Plenty of trainers who have played since Generation 5 launched have never had a real window to stock up on XL Candy or hunt its shiny in bulk, simply because no dedicated slot ever came up.
That is also part of why the leak rings true to the community: Niantic regularly picks under-featured Pokemon for its Hatch Days, and both Riolu and the Magby-Smoochum duo followed that same logic. See you on October 17 to find out if Sandile joins that list, and in the meantime, our light-up Pokeball collection keeps hatching every evening on the nightstand, no incubator or time-limited bonus required.
