Espeon ex and Umbreon ex Battle Decks: contents, date and which to pick

Published on August 12, 2026·Updated on October 7, 2026·By Antoine

The 30th Anniversary Espeon ex and Umbreon ex Battle Decks arrive on 30 October 2026 at a recommended 19.99 dollars, around 20 euros. Each one holds 60 fully shiny cards, ready to play straight out of the box, plus an exclusive Illustration Rare style promo, a playmat, a deck case and a coin. They are sold separately, so you have to pick between the Psychic evolution and the Dark one. The full 60-card lists are out, and French pre-orders are already gone.

What each deck contains

One word sets these two boxes apart: shiny. All 60 cards are, not just the headline one. That is unusual for an entry-level product, where you normally find a handful of rares buried in standard commons.

The rest of the contents is identical between the two boxes:

  • 60 shiny cards, built around Espeon ex or Umbreon ex
  • 1 exclusive promo card in the Illustration Rare style
  • 1 deck case in the anniversary colours
  • 1 playmat
  • 1 exclusive coin

The promo card is what genuinely changes between the two boxes, and it is no throwaway extra.

Espeon ex or Umbreon ex: what actually separates them

Both decks are sold on their own and nothing forces you to buy the pair. Here is what really differs.

If you are torn, the promo is the best tiebreaker. Zeraora is a Mythical Pokémon handed out almost exclusively through limited events, and its cards have historically been more sought after than Victini's. If the plan is to keep the box sealed, the Umbreon ex deck starts ahead. If the plan is to play, decide on type instead: Psychic and Dark do not cover the same weaknesses.

Why these two, and not the others

Eevee has nine evolutions. The Pokémon Company picked two to close out the 30th anniversary year, and that choice was no coin toss.

Since the second generation, Umbreon has been the most requested evolution in the family. Its nocturnal design with yellow rings has made it a lasting favourite well beyond the card game crowd. Espeon is its daytime counterpart, released in the same game, evolving the same way bar one detail: the time of day. Offering them together sells a pair, not two isolated products.

That day and night duo also explains why the two boxes look so alike. One does not really go without the other, and collectors picking up both are not doing it by accident.

The ones left out

Vaporeon, Flareon, Jolteon, Leafeon, Glaceon and Sylveon are not part of this wave. That makes sense on a release calendar, two decks cannot carry nine evolutions, but it does leave a chunk of the audience aside.

Sylveon actually gets its own moment six weeks earlier: the September 16 Sylveon ex Box gives it a 270 HP promo card, its oversize version and 4 boosters from the anniversary expansion.

If you care about an evolution missing from the line-up, a display piece is still an option. Our Vaporeon light-up Poké Ball on a wooden stand follows the same display logic, laser engraved into K9 crystal, where the decks stop at Espeon and Umbreon. The Umbreon crystal LED Poké Ball also sits very well next to the matching deck once that one is back in its case.

What exactly is in each 60-card list?

The full lists are now published, and they confirm these decks are no mere display pieces. The Espeon ex deck runs two Espeon ex, three Eevee, the complete Delphox line and a Victini inside the deck itself, on top of the promo, backed by a Kangaskhan, a Moltres and a Zacian. The Umbreon ex deck answers with two Umbreon ex, three Eevee, the Toxtricity line and three Zeraora, alongside a Chi-Yu, an Yveltal and an Emolga.

On the Trainer side, you get the backbone of decks that actually get played: four Lillie's Determination, three Boss's Orders, Ultra Ball, Pokégear 3.0 and, in the Espeon box, two Rare Candy. Both promos carry their numbers, MEP102 for Victini and MEP103 for Zeraora. And the playmat in the box is printed on both sides, a detail the August announcement never mentioned.

When do they come out, and at what price?

The release stays set for 30 October 2026, simultaneously across the countries concerned, one week before the packed November 6 line-up. The recommended price is now known: 19.99 dollars in the US and 19.99 pounds in the UK, around 20 euros, in line with regular Battle Decks despite the 60 foil cards.

Finding one is another matter. French retailers saw their first pre-order batches vanish within minutes as early as August 21, and as of October 7 the specialist shops show out of stock or waiting lists. Across the Atlantic, the decks already trade between 35 and 50 dollars before release, close to double the recommended price. The script is familiar: the 30th anniversary Elite Trainer Box vanished within minutes on September 16, before 30th anniversary card prices fell back once restocks landed. Standing in a store aisle on the morning of October 30 remains the best route, at the normal price.

Accessories included with the 30th Anniversary Espeon ex and Umbreon ex Battle Decks: playmat, case and exclusive coin

One practical note if you pre-order: these are announced in limited quantities and Battle Decks are generally not reprinted. They go out of stock fast, and the second-hand market takes over with the price gaps you would expect. If this year's releases interest you, our piece on Pokémon 30th anniversary products lists the other boxes on the way.

The short version

Two decks, one date, one decision. The contents are identical bar the promo and the type, so the real question is whether you play or collect. To play, take the type your deck collection lacks. To collect, Zeraora gives the Umbreon ex deck a slight edge.

Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know.

When do the Espeon ex and Umbreon ex Battle Decks come out?

+

On 30 October 2026. French pre-orders vanished within minutes as early as August 21: as of October 7, specialist shops show out of stock or waiting lists, and the best option left is a store shelf on release day.

How many cards does each deck contain?

+

60 cards, and the twist is that all of them are shiny, not just the headline card. You also get an exclusive Illustration Rare style promo, a deck case, a playmat and a coin.

What is the difference between the Espeon ex and Umbreon ex decks?

+

The headline Pokémon and its type, Psychic for Espeon ex and Dark for Umbreon ex, plus the promo card: Victini in the Espeon ex deck, Zeraora in the Umbreon ex deck. Everything else is identical.

Do I need to buy both decks?

+

No. They are sold separately and each one plays as it comes. Buying both only makes sense for collecting, since Espeon and Umbreon form a day and night pair by design.

Are the other Eevee evolutions included?

+

No. Vaporeon, Flareon, Jolteon, Leafeon, Glaceon and Sylveon are not part of this wave, which sticks to Espeon and Umbreon.

How much do the Espeon ex and Umbreon ex Battle Decks cost?

+

19.99 dollars recommended in the US and 19.99 pounds in the UK, around 20 euros. Before release, the US secondary market already lists them between 35 and 50 dollars: better to aim for a store shelf on October 30 at the normal price than to pay that markup.

Are the full deck lists known?

+

Yes, both 60-card lists are published. The Espeon ex deck runs two Espeon ex, three Eevee, the Delphox line and a Victini; the Umbreon ex deck runs two Umbreon ex, three Eevee, the Toxtricity line and three Zeraora. The promos are numbered MEP102 for Victini and MEP103 for Zeraora.
